The Home Science College was introduced in Tamil Nadu Agricultural University during the year 1980 at Madurai Campus. It was functioning as Department of Home Science, with the approval of ICAR accreditation committee for introducing other Departments of Home Science in future. During 1984 the existing post graduate programme (started during 1982) in Department of Food Science and Nutrition which had its origin as Department of Food Technology in the year 1974 at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore was shifted to Madurai Campus to strengthen the Home Science College. Subsequently in the year 1988 the Ph.D in Food Science and Nutrition was introduced at Madurai.During the year 2000, with new Departments the college started functioning with Dean(Home Science).
