The Teachers Training College, Silchar is a Govt. College which provides the course on graduate teachers training programme (Bachelor of education i.e. B.Ed.). The institute is affiliated under the Assam University, SIlchar (A Central University) under University Act of 1989. The first class of B.T. College styled as Teachers’ Training College was started in 1960 and it was the first college of such kind in the Barak Valley of that time. At first it was affiliated to the Gauhati University then after with the start of Assam University its affiliation also got changed.  The second oldest Govt. college of Teachers’ Education (T.T. College) was established in the year 1960 and the first batch of B.T. candidates was appeared at the final exam under Gauhati University at Gauhati University centre. In 1962,,Gauhati University accorded affiliation and allowed a centre for B.T. exam at Silchar. The college was taken over the Govt. of Assam on the 1st April, 1983 and came under the jurisdiction of Assam University on 21st January, 1994. The mission or motto of the college is to produce able and efficient teachers in order to ensure quality education particularly at the secondary level and to provide the extension services to the teacher community to update their knowledge in the field of education.
