The revolutionary fervour of the freedom movement gave birth to many idealistic nation building endeavours during the pre- independence era. Most of these activities were focused on education, healthcare and social reform. Bhatkal Education Trust is one such by-product of the times. Founded in the year 1935, Bhatkal Education Trust’s fundamental objective has been to spread education among all, irrespective of caste, creed, colour or religion, and with special emphasis on educating girl students belonging to the weaker sections of society. T was registered as a public charitable trust on 18th November 1955, under the provisions of then Bombay Public Trusts Act 1950. Since then, the trust has played a pivotal role in providing quality education to the people of Bhatkal, a minor port town of Uttar Kannada district in Karnataka. Beginning with its first institution-the New English School- the trust at present runs five institutions with plans for adding new projects in the coming years. The institutions have a combined student strength of 2000 and staff strength of 150. Bhatkal Education Trust is today one of the oldest, most reputable and respected charitable educational institutions of this part of region. The trust is managed by a Board of Trustees, comprising of noted dignitaries fro various walks of public life.
