Malighati Dr. B.R. Ambedkar College has been set up by Malighati Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Society for Advancement of Learning & Health which is registered voluntary organization (Regd. No. S/L/9319 of 20022003). Ofcourse, the initial name of the Society was Lisa Computer Education & Centre which was altered keeping in view of the felt need for establishmentand management of a Teacher's Training Institution in the area. The activists of the Society approached Babu Santinath Chowdhury, the owner of the Malighati Estate for giving permissive possesion of his vast land and spectacular building to the Society so that the proposed B.Ed. College could be run. It goes without saying that Babu Santinath Chowdhury who was at bottom a philanthropist and an educationist readily agreed to the proposal. Because of his generosity and magnanimity Malighati Estate became a seat of higher learning after slight restructuring & renovation.
