Jadavpur University is a state-level research university located in Kolkata, Established in 1906 as Bengal Technical Institute and was converted into Jadavpur University in 1955. Eligibility Criteria

• A person who has obtained the Master’s degree in any discipline from any University or other Institution recognized by this University or such other degree as may be considered sufficient for this purpose by the University will be eligible to apply for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programme.
• A person who has obtained a Post-graduate Diploma/Degree of less than two years’ duration from any University or Institution recognized by this University is eligible to apply for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programme provided that such candidate has completed at least a total of five years’ of graduate and postgraduate study in a recognized university or Institution.
• A person who has obtained the Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology/Pharmacy/MCA of this university or from any other university or Institutions recognized as equivalent thereto by the university may apply for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programme. 

Application Process

• Candidates should apply in the prescribed form available on the website The downloaded form is to be submitted along with a draft of Rs. 500/- in favour of Registrar, Jadavpur University payable at Kolkata, to the office of the Dean and Secretary.

Selection Criteria

• Candidates will be selected through a written test of two hour duration and an interview to be held in the respective Departments. However the candidates who have an M.Phil (Regular two year course) degree or have qualified NET/SET/Teacher Fellowship need not appear for written examination and can directly apply to appear for an interview. List of successful candidates in the written test will be displayed at the JU website.

The total weightage of The M.Phil Ph.D Entrance Test of Jadavpur University will be 50% and will consist of 2 papers i.e :
