Central University of Jammu 

Central University of Jammu, situated in Jammu, Jammu and Kashmir, has been established through an Act of Parliament: "The Central Universities Act, 2009" by Govt. of India. It started working in the year 2011. Dr. Sudhir Singh Bloeria was the first Vice Chancellor of the university. 

The Central University of Jammu came into existence on 8 August 2011, with the appointment of first Vice-Chancellor. It was established by the Central Universities Act, 2009 (Act No.25 of 2009 read with the Central Universities Act, 2009). 

The first academic session (2011-2012) commenced with the three Post Graduate courses in English, Economics and Applied Mathematics at Temporary Academic Block-I (TAB-I) at Sidhra bypass road, Jammu. In the next academic session (2012-2013), 5 new PG Courses were added which includes: Computer Science, Educational Studies, Environmental Sciences, Human Resource Management and Travel and Tourism Management in Temporary Academic Block (TAB-II) at Sainik Colony Extension. Since the 3rd session (2013-2014) all the departments are functioning from the TAB at Sainik Colony. 4 new postgraduate courses were introduced in the academic session (2014-2015): National Security Studies; Public Policy and Public Administration; Social Work and Mass Communication and New Media. The University also offers an Integrated M-Phil-Ph.D program in 8 subjects. 

The University carries out its administrative functions from its head office at the Bagla, Rahya-Suchani, Distt. Samba.

The Central University of Jammu campus is under construction at the Village Bagla, Raya Suchani in District Samba, which is at an approximate distance of 25 kms away from Jammu.

About the Campus

The university's administrative office is housed in a building at the campus site at the Rahya- Suchani (Bagla), Distt-Samba, (J and K). All the teaching Departments had started functioning from the university's Main Campus from the Academic session of year 2017-18. The university campus area extends to 610-acre which comprises a variety of noteworthy geographical characteristics, including a scenic environment, various buildings, and the large roads. The campus is a sight to behold, with architectural harmony and the natural beauty. The main academic building houses various teaching, research, library, laboratory and recreational facilities. 

Academic Infrastructure of the University 

To meet the contemporary demands of many study program, the University boasts state-of-the-art infrastructural facilities such as smart classrooms, well-equipped Research Laboratories, and Lecture Theatres. The University has a fully automated library that is stocked with an adequate number of books (both physical and electronic), journals (both physical and online), and reference materials relating to the many disciplines or programs of study provided by the University. 

Internet and ICT Labs

The University is equipped with the seamless Wi-Fi connectivity and candidates can access the Internet through their own laptops from anywhere in the Campus. The University also has 3 state-of-the-art ICT Labs equipped with high-end PCs loaded with necessary software accessible to the candidates of all the disciplines. 

Library

The library was established in 2011 and now caters to the 21 departments. It has a collection of about 27253 Books, 50 print journals, 5118 online e-journals, 277 e-Books, 16 Newspapers, 15 Magazines and remote access facility for accessing the subscribed e- resources through INFED (INFLIBNET).The Library has 10 Computers for the Research Scholars and Candidates to access the e-Resources, Internet and OPAC. This library has access to the anti-plagiarism software namely URKUND and iThenticate (Turnitin). 

Directorate of Physical Education

The Directorate of Physical Education was established in 2018 with an objective of developing and promoting the sports culture among the youth for overall development of their personality. The directorate aims to develop the spirit of sportsmanship, achievement, national pride and patriotism among youth. With a view to realise and fulfil this mammoth task, the Directorate plans to develop the sports facilities and infrastructure in the university campus and conduct camps, marathons, university campus sports activities etc. Candidates brought laurels to the institution by winning a number of state and national level competitions. The Directorate of Physical Education has constituted a 'Fitness Club' that regularly organises the activities which promotes the vision of the Fit India Movement. Candidates of Central University of Jammu participated in the various sports events like All India inter University sports championship, State sports championship etc.

The Central Placement Cell

The Central Placement Cell of the Central University of Jammu endeavours to facilitate and provide the suitable placement to candidates in reputed multinationals, Government Organizations, NGO's and the private sector. It is in touch with the leading national and multinational companies. The University prepares the candidates for the industry by providing them pre-placement training and skills. 

Students Progression to the Higher Education

Many Candidates of the Central University of Jammu are pursuing higher degrees in the good institutions like Delhi University, Hanyang University (South Korea), ENSCBP Bordeaux (France), Jamia Millia Islamia, Punjabi University, MANNU (Hyderabad), University of Estonia, IIT Jodhpur, NIT Srinagar, Central University of Rajasthan, IIT Indore etc. Our Candidates are showing excellence in their careers by pursuing their higher education from all these reputed institutions. 

Combined Coaching Classes for the Competitive Exams

The University is also providing coaching for Competitive exams like UPSC, JKPSC, BANKING etc. to the aspiring Candidates(including those belonging to SC,ST,OBC, PWD and EWS categories) for the different competitive examinations.
