D A.V college is situated on the outskirts of the municipal area. The buildings of the college stand on either side of the road running towards Sindhekela. The College was founded in the year 1968, after a consistent struggle and efforts of the local intelligentsia and enthusiasts. The first step to set up a college at Titilagarh was taken in 1968 with the support   and patronage from all quarters. Dr. A.N Khosla, the-then Governor of Odisha, readily   acceded   to the proposal of opening of a college at this town with a view to providing facility of higher education to the youth of the region. It was also decided to bring this college under the management of the D.A.V. Trust for better governance. In accordance   with   this preconceived   plan, the campus of the Division Office of the B.N.R was selected as the site of the proposed college and about 38 acres   of land encompassing bungalows, quarters and building used by the BNR were acquired for this purpose.


The College was opened in July 1968 with a strength of 112 students and 12 members of the teaching staff for the faculties of Arts. Science and Commerce at the Pre-University Stage. It was affiliated to the Sambalpur University. The college has grown up with the munificent assistance and aids of the D.A.V Trust, local patrons, Panchayats and in due course aid from the state Government. The college has now gained vigour and strength with the growth of students and staff. It runs at present with a strength of about 3000 students on the rolls, and 50 teachers. The college has maintained a unique position in respect of teaching, learning and discipline.


The institution has been accredited Grade “B” by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), an autonomous assessment body of the U.G.C. Autonomous status has been conferred on D.A.V. College since 2009.
