NMCH In the year 1970 Nalanda Medical College was established by Dr. Vijay Narayain Singh,(MS. F.R.C.S) Dr. Madhusudan Das (MR Ch) & Dr. Shailendra Kumar Sinha ,(MS. F.R.C.S) along with Shri Krishna Kant Singh, the ex education minister of Bihar, with an idea to produce bright & young doctors to serve the suffering humanity. The classes started from 2nd April 1970 under the principalship of Dr. Shailendra Kumar Sinha ,(MS. F.R.C.S) In the beginning 150 students were taking admission. In the year 1978 it was taken over by Govt. of Bihar and was recognized by Medical Council of India. The Student intake was reduced to 50 and were selected by various state and central govt. competitive examination In the journey of four decades, the College as well as Hospital has developed immense potential and Doctors from NMCH are serving not only in India but abroad as well.

The College is situated on Kankarbagh old Bye pass road. The department of anatomy, phisiology, Biochemestry , Microbiology , PSM ,FMT & Pharmacology are situated here.

Nalanda Medical College has 3 Hostels. 2 hostels are for boys and 1 hostel is for girls. These hostels have adequate capacity, as well as facilities like mesh and proper security is also available.
Hospital is located at Agamkuan and is well connected by all communication means. It has about 100 acres of land and different departments of the hospital are spread over several buildings in the campus. The different departments of the hospital are well equipped with modern equipments and expert doctors. NMCH is a major hub for treatment of all specialty in eastern patna taking care of approximately 2000 patient per day in OPD. The no of admission of patient per day in different departments and in casualty as well as in emergency is also very high. The hospital has about 750 beds with a very high percentage of bed occupancy. Hospital has fully computerized centralized registration counter. Distribution of medicine among the OPD patients as well as to the admitted patients is done as per Bihar government guidelines. The hospital has state of the art lecture theatre fully air-conditioned with multimedia projector and other audio video aids. It has well equipped seminar hall comprising almost all the books of latest edition. OT is equipped with modern equipment for minimal invasive surgery and Endo Urology. There is central gas pipe line and central Suction.

Apart from regular medical treatment and care several national health programs like pulse polio vaccination program are also run in the hospital.
