Patna Dental College was established by the Government of Bihar under the able guidance and Principalship of Late Dr. R.P. Lall on September 9, 1960 in the premises of Patna Medical College and Hospital. Presently, Patna Dental College and Hospital is situated in its own building and is located in the heart of the city on the bank of the holy river Ganga adjacent to PMCH on main Ashok Rajpath. Patna Dental College and Hospital imparts Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and Master degree in Dental Surgery (MDS) and Certificate courses in Dental Hygiene and Dental Mechanics. The College and Hospital is well equipped with the latest technology and provides one of the best education and treatment in the field of dental science. The principal of this college Dr. (Prof) D.K. Singh has recently been honored by the President of India Hon. Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam for his excellence in providing world class education in dentistry. The institute is being developed into a center of modern dental science imparting dental education and specialized patient care among all sections of the society. Patna Dental College and Hospital is the only Government Dental Institution in the state of Bihar at city of Patna offering BDS Course with 40 admissions per year, is permanently affiliated to the Patna University. It is recognized by Dental Council of India and Ministry of Health and Medical Education, Government of India. Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) is a full time four years Graduate Programme, followed by one year of compulsory rotatery internship, however the Government of India and Dental Council has recently changed the BDS curriculum in five years course abolishing the period of internship. The college has started necessary steps to follow the above revised curriculum from forth coming session. The Postgraduate (MDS) degree courses imparted by this college in the subject of Prosthodontics and Oral Pathology has been duly recognized by Dental Council of India. Presently admission in MDS in Oral Pathology has been stopped and four seats are available in the subject of Prosthodontics. The Certificate courses are of two years duration after passing Secondary school examination from a recognized board. Admission to BDS, MDS and Certificate courses available at Patna Dental College is granted on the basis of competitive examination conducted by Department of Health, Government of Bihar and by the Ministry of Health, Government of India through All India Competitive Test. In BDS course 10 seats are filled by Government of Jharkhand.
