Greetings from the Principal, Lady Shri Ram College for Women, a premier educational institution of excellence.

The academic year 2015-16 has been a momentous and significant landmark in the journey of Lady Shri Ram College. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) — an autonomous institution set up by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to focus on quality in higher educational institutions — in its evaluation, awarded LSR a score of 3.61, the highest amongst Delhi University Colleges so far. Adding to this moment of immense pride, were several nation-wide media surveys of colleges which once again placed LSR amongst the top academic institutions — the India Today-Nielsen Survey ranked LSR first in Arts and B. El. Ed. streams and second in Commerce. Two other surveys — The Week-Hansa Survey and Careers 360 Survey — have ranked LSR College as the best Arts College of India.

These achievements are not a result of one year’s performance alone. On the basis of my old association with LSR as a student and my tenure as Principal, I view them as a testimony to the institution’s inherent strength accumulated over the years. To this, each member of the LSR community (including its alumnae) has contributed immensely. They all deserve to be congratulated.

This recognition of LSR as an exceptional institution of learning brings tremendous sense of responsibility on us and inspires us to strive and push the bar further. In this moment of celebration, there is no room for complacence and we need to acknowledge that we have to prepare young minds to face challenges of an emerging knowledge society which is changing with an unprecedented pace. We at LSR aim to equip young women to transform these challenges into exciting opportunities. Our pedagogy, while recognizing the significance of technology, is mindful of the fact that modernization need not be dichotomous with our tradition and culture. Through the teaching learning process, LSR students along with their very experienced, committed and dedicated faculty engage with contemporary issues without jettisoning the best of our cultural values and traditions.The contribution of our Non-Teaching Staff, the backbone of the College, is crucial in this endeavour.

I find it extremely exciting and satisfying to be a member of the LSR community. As a Principal, I view my role as a catalyst to provoke and draw the best of the inherent and latent potential of the LSR community. I welcome the new batch of students to grab this opportunity and to take ownership of this institution and embark on this ennobling journey of life-enhancing education.
