The Allahabad Bible Seminary was established in July 1942 under the auspices of One Mission Society, formerly known as Oriental Missionary Society and OMS International respectively which aims to see the Gospel of Jesus Christ spread throughout the world and to see God glorified in all that we say and do. The Seminary was launched with 18 students with a revival and holiness convention. In the initial stage, the OMS staff was headed by Dr. Eugene and Mrs. Esther Erny (former OMS missionaries to China) who were joined by Wesley and Betsy Duewel, new recruits from the U.S.A. Charles A. Cowman, founder of the Society in Japan, 1901, believed strongly in the importance of well-trained nationals for the growth and development of the Church. Guided by the ministry philosophy of OMS (viz. A trained corps of national workers, evangelism with the goal of planting indigenous Churches), the format of A.B.S. training is centered on biblical studies, development of spiritual life and practical experience in evangelistic outreach.
It was begun with the sole purpose of training native pastors, evangelists and church planters. It focuses on effective preparation for Spirit filled ministry with a deeper concern for winning men and women to Christ in India. At present, the Seminary has been blessed with students from 26 states of the Indian Union representing major denominational churches, para-church organizations and institutions. Thus the Allahabad Bible Seminary is multi-cultural, multi-lingual and inter-denominational in nature and character. The Seminary provides sound academic and ministerial exposure throughout the study programmes. The Seminary involves in the programmes of Evangelism and Societal Empowerment in the neighboring villages.

The Seminary is governed by the Allahabad Bible Seminary Board of Trustees with OMS International having only membership on the board along with members of the Evangelical Church of India and others.
