M A Chidambaram School of Nursing, Chennai was established as a unit of M A C (Educational) Foundation, a Public Charitable Trust. The School of Nursing has gained approval of Indian Nursing Council (INC), New Delhi and recognized by the state government. The School of Nursing believe in providing sound professional education to facilitate overall development of the students by helping them acquire professional knowledge, right attitude, strong character and the ability to function effectively in leadership positions in all spheres of the nursing profession.
 
The M A Chidambaram School of Nursing is an offshoot of the Multipurpose Health Workers (Female) course of 18 months duration started by the MA Chidambaram Institute of Community Health of the Voluntary Health Services Hospital at Taramani in 1983. Both these institutions were founded by the illustrious duo Dr.Sanjeevi and Dr.M.A.Chidambaram with an intense desire to provide education and the required training in health care and patient care including community health services to the less privileged sections of the society especially the rural poor. Dr.Sanjeevi founded the Voluntary Health Services Hospital in July 1958  after he retired from Government Services. This grew to be 450 bedded Hospital over the years.
