S.R.Kanthi College of Education, Ilkal has been established in the year 1986 by Shri Vijayamahantesh Vidyavardhak Society, a well-organized society committed itself to render its service to the greater causes of education to needy of this rural region of northern Karnataka. The college is named after Late Shri S.R.Kanthi, the Ex.Chief Minister and rest while Education Minister of Karnataka State. He was one of the pioneers and founders of the S.V.M.V.V.Society, Ilkal. The college has been a monument in the memory of that great son of Ilkal.
The Vijayamahantesh Vidyavardhak Society has started in 1963, are now running many Institutions with greater efficiency and success. S.R.Kanthi College of Education is one of the proud feathers in its cap.
The College is affiliated to Rani Channamma University, Belagavi and has got permanent Affiliation and Approved by N.C.T.E. The institution had a privilege of being a member of 2 (f) and 12 (b) of U.G.C. Act of 1954. The Government of Karnataka has admitted the college for salary grant. The College has been rated by the experts and students’ community as one of the best Colleges of Teacher Education in the State, because of its academic activities and quality Education. With all infrastructure felicities and qualified staff the College is imparting Teacher Education in both Kannada and English medium to cater the needs of rural aspirants.
