Darul Irshad Arabic College, Kannur is a premier institution of its kind imparting yeoman service in the field of religious and secular education for the last three decades. This institution was founded by a group of eminent scholars who were known for their exemplary life. The college is affiliated to the Kannur University in North Malabar in Kerala. Though the institution aims at producing efficient scholars and dedicated speakers in the field of religion, the college has not a good infrastructure yet.
Inspired by a profound desire to discharge the duties imposed upon every Muslim by the Holy Qur’an and Hadith and guided by a deep-rooted realization of the dangers which threaten the Islamic way of life we propose to start an Arabic College which will be strong hold of Islamic culture and tradition and will impart higher education both in theology, and Modern University courses and will enable the students to pass the examinations of recognized universities in Arts and Commerce.

Kannur University was established by the Act 22 of 1996 of Kerala Legislative Assembly. The University by the name “Malabar University” had come into existence even earlier by the promulgaton of an Ordinance by the Governor of Kerala, on 9th November 1995. The University was inaugurated on 2nd March 1996 by the Hon. Chief Minister of Kerala. The objective of the Kannur University Act 1996 is to establish in the state of Kerala a teaching, residential and affiliating University so as to provide for the development of higher education in Kasargod and Kannur revenue Districts and the Mananthavady Taluk of Wayanad District.
