Gopeshwar College Established in 1956, Gopeshwar College, Hathwa, a constituent unit of Jai Prakash University, Chapra, is situated in a lush green environment friendly campus on the land donated by the erstwhile Maharani Durgeshwari Devi, wife of Maharaja Gopeshwar Prasad Sahi of Hathwa Raj, the 104th Maharaja of Hathwa.

A view of the Hathwa Palace across the boundary adds to its scenic beauty. The college caters to the needs of those living within 15 to 20 km radius. It has recently seen a great increase in the number of girl students, and the students belonging to reserved categories. With strength of more than four thousand students, the college has always produced good results in different examinations; some of its students in one or the other subjects procure highest marks in the University as well.

Gopeshwar College has rich laboratories of Chemistry, Physics, Botany, Zoology and Geography. The departments of Botany and Zoology are running in a newly built building. The college has a separate block of Social Sciences for the departments of Economics and Political Science. The college library is a rich resource of the books on History and Geography. It has a sizable number of rare publications that is a valuable donation from the Hathwa Raj Library. Construction of its new building is under consideration.
