Institute of Handloom and Textile Technology, Kerala was established in 1987 is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Industries, Government of Kerala and the nodal agency in the State for giving input of Science and Technology to the traditional Handloom Textile Industry. The Institute of Handloom and Textile Technology is amalgamated to Indian Institute of Handloom technology which is working on the guidelines of governing body of Indian Institute of Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India. The institute is conducting program for modernized Technical education in Handloom and Textile technology.
The objectives of the institute is to arrange short and long term training programs on weaving, dyeing, designing, printing of handloom fabrics, to undertake, aid, promote and co-ordinate research and development activities on all aspects of handloom industry and to work in collaboration with other industries, organizations, associations and societies established for the development of Handloom Industry.
