Department of Vegetable Crops
The Department of Vegetable Crops, Horticultural College and Research Institute, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University was established during 1979 to undertake research and extension work in tropical, subtropical and temperate vegetable crops especially in solanaceous, cucurbitaceous, malvaceous, bulb, root and tuber vegetable crops particularly tomato, brinjal, chilli, bhendi, amranthus, gourds, cassava and sweetpotato and minor tubers like coleus.
The department of vegetable crops is the centre of excellence for research on vegetable crops. The schemes from ICAR, State Government and Government of India are being implemented on breeding, management, production and value addition.
The UG and PG laboratories are equipped with GCMS, HPLC and growth chamber. The faculties are having expertise gained from international institutes and laboratories.
