The formation of the Karpaga Vinayaga Educational Trust was initiated by the philanthropic spurts exerted by Thiru. S. Regupathy in association with a group of like-minded patrons who are best regarded for their bountiful services to the promotion of education. The avowed objective of the Trust was to provide facilities for innovative higher education with vocational bias.

An epitome of higher learning, the J.J. College of Arts and Science is the Trust's first educational endeavour of benevolence. The other three Government colleges of long standing and serving hitherto the cause of higher education in Pudukkotai were all confined to conventional field of study. With the technological boom and drift in global values, there formed a gap in the educational field as the courses in emerging fields of knowledge were yet to reach the region. With the social consciousness to bridge the gap, J.J. College of Arts and Science was incepted in 1994.
