The first ever initiative to start a college to train teachers was started by late .M.C.Sivananda Sarma in 1954. The R.V. Teacher’s college was the first institution in Bangalore which started the D.Ed and B.Ed programmes.

A glimpse through the records of the past, one gets to see how the institution has crossed many a milestones. Having been recognized as the Institute of Advanced Studies in Education (IASE) in 1996, by the Ministry of HRD, the College has extended its activities to many other areas.

The college has established a Research Cell which organized in-service programmers and conducts Research by some of the faculty members. Some of them include “Method to develop instructional materials for dyslexic children in English”, “to improve communication abilities of Kannada medium students”, etc.

The activities under IASE also include conducting workshops, orientation and development programs, preparing lab manuals, diagnostic test materials and others in collaboration with UNESCO-HIV program. With a tie-up with KSOU, the faculty members have guided 25 students to work their M.Phil dissertations in 2001.

The manuals on Number systems, English Poetry, etc makes teaching simpler and can be easily understood by students. These are brought out by the institution with the assistance from DESRT. ‘Kalpana is the college annual which has articles, poems, pictures contributed by both the staff and students.

The college though one of the earliest institutions founded by Sri.M.C.Sivnanda Sarma, has maintained its glory. With recent additions of air conditioned Seminar Hall, a Research Center, a library with a number of books, it appears that the effort of the founder secretary is remarkable even to this day.
