Thassim Beevi Abdul Kader College for Women, affiliated to Alagappa University, Karaikudi, was founded in 1988 by Alhaj Dr B S Abdur Rahman Sahib sponsored by Seethakathi Trust, Chennai which has established various educational institutions par excellence in Tamil Nadu. The college which was started with the strength of just 65 students and a total of 11 staff members has grown steadily and at present it has above 2106 students enrolled in various disciplines of Arts and Sciences, both at the under-graduate, post-graduate levels and Research, with 117 members of faculty along with 87 members of non-teaching staff and with 4 technical staff. Realizing the growth of science and technology in modern times and need of Computers in our day-today life, the college offers both undergraduate and postgraduate Programmes in Arts, Humanities and Sciences to meet out the challenging demands of the placement sector. The college is extending its Institutional Social Responsibility (ISR) to neighbourhood villages and to the local community through Community Social Service (CSS) and the Seethakathi NGO under Seethakathi Trust. The college had another feather to its cap since 2009 by upgrading the Science and Commerce department viz. Home Science, Computer Science and Commerce as approved Research Centres under Alagappa University. The college proudly introduced two new UG Programmes in Psychology and Food Processing and Quality Control during 2013-14. During 2015-16 the College has taken the new initiatives to introduce digital learning concepts through free e-learning programs to the students and faculty offered through Spoken Tutorials, IIT, Mumbai and through NPTEL, IIT, Chennai; IIT, Bombay has identified our institution as “Nodal Centre†to initiate “Spoken Tutorial Programs†in affiliated Colleges under Alagappa University, Karaikudi During 2016-17, the Department of Mathematics was approved by our parent university to offer M.Phil in Mathematics and the Department of Home Science introduced a three year UG Programme in B Sc Home Science Textile and Interior Designing In 2017-18, the Department of english has introduced M Phil in English during June 2017. The Department of Arabic has introduced B.A. Arabic, a three year program during June 2017-18 with an intake of 40 as sanctioned strength.
