Bishop Benziger school of nursing was founded in 1971 with the aim of turning out a band of qualified nurses fired with the spirit of Christian love and service. The yearly intake was 20 students. This has been raised over the years and we now admit 50 students annually. Qualified and competent nursing features impart to the students the sound principles of professional nursing. The school of nursing is recognized by the Kerala Nurses and Midwives Council and INC. Graduates of the school now compass the ends of the globe. The Nursing school is attached to Bishop Benziger hospital. As a step in its progress, the management had been trying to start a nursing college with the objective of providing quality education to those involved in the care of the sick. As a result of constant effort, hard work and prayers,Bishop Benziger college of Nursing came into existence in 2004. His Lordship the Rt.Rev.Dr.Stanley Roman, Bishop of Quilon, is the patron of the Hospital and the Chairman of its Governing Body. The Hospital and the School of Nursing, College of nursing are administered by the Director, who represents the Bishop of Quilon. The day-to-day running of the hospital is entrusted to the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Quilon and the Missionary Sisters of St.Theresa. The college was officially inaugurated by Shri.Oommen chandy, the then hon’ble chief minister of Kerala. HIS EXCELLENCY Rt.Rev.Dr.Stanley Roman, Bishop of Quilon presided over the function. Rt.rev.Msgr.Fr.Ferdinand Peter, director Bishop Benziger hospital, gave the welcome speech and Sr.Celcy Mary, Administrator, Bishop Benziger College of Nursing Presented the report. The programme was facilitated by Shri.babu Divakaran, the then minister for Labour, Kerala; Shri.Rajeevakshan, Registrar, KNC; Shri.Shibu Baby John, MLA; Shri. J.Francis, President, KLCA, Kollam; Rev.Sr.Preethi Mary, FIH, Asst.Superior General; Prof.Mary Dasan, Vice President, DCC Kollam, Adv.P.Jeremiah, President, District Youth Congress and Prof.K.Andrews, Principal, KRT College, Kollam. Rev.Fr.Joseph Detto the then Associate Director, Bishop Benziger Hospital delivered the vote of thanks.
