Rani Durgavati Vishwavidyalya is its local name and it is often abbreviated as RDVV or RDV. Dr. Kunji Lal Dubey, who subsequently became the Speaker, Vidhan Sabha of M.P., was the founder Vice-Chancellor of the University. Dr. Kunji Lal, a visionary and a philosopher envisioned the university at Jabalpur in 1956. It was on 9th February, 1959 that his vision materialised with establishment of Rani Durgavati Vishwavidyalya. It is named after Rani Durgavati who was valiant, beautiful and a great leader.
