The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) was set up in 1963 by the Government of India as an autonomous organisation to help professionalise the country's foreign trade management and increase exports by developing human resources; generating, analysing and disseminating data; and conducting research. IIFT was set up by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. IIFT was awarded the status of Deemed University in May 2002 under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 vide Notification No. F.9-31/2001-U.3 of the Government of India.
