Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Patiala was established in year 2006 by Punjab Government (Punjab Act No. 12 of 2006) as a public university. The University is registered with the University Grants Commission, New Delhi, under Section 2(f) of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956. It has the approval of the Bar Council of India for imparting professional legal education. RGNUL is an autonomous body, governed by its own Statutory Councils and has a democratic administrative system. The University follows the semester system where social science subjects are taught along with law for the first two years to initiate students towards an interdisciplinary approach to legal education. Internship of the University has been divided into 2 stages through the Initial and the Advanced Internship Programmes.
