Uttarakhand Technical University (UTU) is a State Technical University. It was established on 27th January 2005 by Uttarakhand Technical University act 2005. It was established with the aim of propagating and enhancing the level of technical education in the state of Uttaranchal. Before the formation of the state of Uttaranchal all the Technical Colleges in Uttar Pradesh were affiliated to U.P. Technical University. However, after the formation of the new state of ‘Uttaranchal’, the government felt the need for a separate technical university for technical colleges which came under territory of Uttaranchal. Thus a new University was born with the name of ‘Uttaranchal Technical University’. However, with the change in name of the State, from Uttaranchal to Uttarakhand in 2007, the University’s name was also changed to ‘Uttarakhand Technical University’.
