Uttar Banga Krishi Viswavidyalaya is an Agricultural University, established by West Bengal Act XX of 2000. It started it's functioning from 1st February, 2001. It was established by the state government of West Bengal as a satellite campus of the State Agriculture University at Pundibari of Cooch-Behar district in 1979. It was established because the six northern districts of West Bengal viz., Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, Malda, Dakshin Dinajpur and Uttar Dinajpur, had low productivity. And as such there was a need to incerase horticultural crop production of these regions. The Indian Council of Agricultural Research accredited the campus and started extending development support.
